Husband of 60 years to Theodora (Tramontanas) Halkias
Father of Mary (Halkias) Boulton and Deno Halkias, Father-In-Law of John Boulton and Linda (LoJudice) Halkias Grandfather of Alex Halkias, Doria Halkias, Yvonne (Boulton) Eugenio, and Christine (Boulton) Hunyady. Great Grandfather of Tani, Cheyne, and Rhyen Eugenio, and Athena and Kaeli Hunyady. George had numerous other relatives both here, in the United States, and in Greece.

George came to Steubenville, Ohio at the age of 14, in 1928, from his native country of Karpathos, Greece. He completed High School and then began work with his father and uncles in the steel mills of West Virginia. Seeking a better life, he moved to California, where he settled in Hollywood and began working as a waiter in high end restaurants and clubs like the Brown Derby and the Pirates’ Den. With the outbreak of WWII, George took his steel working skills to the shipyards and helped build ships for the war effort. A work related injury forced him to leave the shipyards and he joined the army shortly afterwards at the age of 30. He was assigned to ‘A’ company, 116th regiment, 29th infantry division where he participated in the first wave of the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France, at Omaha Beach, and survived numerous battles thereafter. After the war George returned to California and opened a restaurant in Stockton. It was there that he was introduced to his partner for life, Theodora, with whom he spent many happy years. George was a Mason and member of the San Francisco Culinary, Bartenders & Service Employees Union for over 30 years. He lived a full and rich life and took great pride in his Greek heritage. He was an avid musician. First, among the many instruments he enjoyed playing, was his Cretan Lyra. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
