Karen Hansen Bergstrom December 11, 1953- July 23, 2010
Passed away Friday July 23, 2010, after a courageous ten-month battle with cancer at the age of 56. Beloved wife of Thomas Bergstrom; Devoted mother of Mark (Frances) Hopkins, Kevin (Ashley) Bergstrom, Kody Bergstrom, and Kyle Bergstrom. Loving grandmother of Malachi Hopkins. Daughter of Rosemarie and the late David A. Hansen. Sister of Kris (Bob) Muller, Kathryn Hansen, and Matt (Terry Hertman) Hansen. Niece of Adele Hansen. Daughter- in-law of Eleanor and Dick Plattenberg; Sister-in-law of, Patty (Mike) Trossbach, Sue Coldiron, Karen (Rusty) Huyck. Aunt of eleven nieces and nephews, great aunt to three. Karen was a Building Inspector II for Contra Costa County (ICBO certified), journeyman carpenter, and graduate of Mercy High School, Burlingame. She was an energetic, hardworking, patriotic, 49er fan who loved animals (especially big cats) and sharing the out- of- doors with her family (especially ocean kayaking). She loved cooking and being creative with her hands--with stained glass, drawing, and carpentry projects. Her light was dimmed much too soon. She'll be truly missed by family, friends, and colleagues, all of whom she cherished. Karen's family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Wolf's team at UCSF whose care granted her extended time on earth. Friends may visit Tuesday July 27th 4pm to 7pm at Duggan Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave. Daly City. A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday July 28th 11am at Gateway Church, 1315 Military West, Benicia. Memorial donations may be made in Karen's name to UCSF Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (Dr. Wolf) c/o UCSF Foundation, P.O. Box 45339 SF Ca. 94145-0339, Ph: (877) 499-UCSF, or a charity of your choice.
