Longtime resident of Pacifica, CA , Victor Francis Santa Maria, age 82, passed away July 18, 2010 due to complications of a stroke. Born in Whitesboro, NY to Carlos and Lucia Santa Maria, 1st generation Italian immigrants, Vic was the fifth of 10 children ( survived by his siblings, Teresa Sullivan of HI, Stevie Santa Maria of NY, Boots Santa Maria of NY, Carolina Stockbridge of NY, Rose Stockbridge of NY). Vic served in the US Navy during WWII from 1945 to 1946 and then again in 1948 to 1952 during the Korean war, serving on aircraft carriers including the USS Missouri. He graduated from Santa Rosa Junior College and then went on to graduate from the California State University at Chico. Vic married Joan Mitchell in 1960, with whom he shared 50 years of happy marriage. During his career, he taught woodshop at Benjamin Franklin and Fernando Rivera Intermediate Schools in Daly City. He also worked at Cypress Hill Golf Course as a Golf Instructor, Starter and Marshal. An avid golfer, Vic won numerous championships including the 1991-1992 City of Palo Alto Champion low gross winner, as well as the Men's Super Senior San Francisco City Golf Champion three years in a row (1998-2000). Cypress Hill Club Champ for many years, Vic was also a member of the South San Francisco Duffers, Cypress Hills Men's Club, Sharp Park Men's Club and Aptos Seascape. Victor will be remembered for his cheeky grin and good sense of humor as he is survived by his spouse Joan Santa Maria and their children Sarah Santa Maria (Jack Wineinger) of Portland OR and Carol Pietro (Chuck) of San Mateo, CA as well as his grandchildren Sophia and Ava Wineinger and Gabriella, Emily, Anthony and Marilena Pietro. Thank you to the staff of Mission Villa and Kaiser for their care and compassion.
Friends and family may visit Thursday, July 22nd from 4-7pm and are invited to attend the Funeral Service at 5pm at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City.
